The Notebook
Students are expected to keep a notebook. Students will need TWO single subject spiral notebooks throughout the year. It is vital that students keep their notebook up to date as 50% of their grade is based solely on their notebook. The other 50% will be based on tests. Tests will be based on labs and all lab work will be recorded in the notebook. Each teacher will be giving very similar assignments, but the scheduling of assignments will vary according to teacher. See your teacher to keep up to date on your class's table of contents. (NOTE: if you are in Mrs. Chiu's class see the Mrs. Chiu's class tab for the table of contents).
Parents and students: remember to frequently check power school to stay up to date with grades.
June's Assignments
Egg Launch Project: Students are to build a vehicle out of a 20 oz. soda bottle to carry an egg during a violent collision. The goal is for the egg NOT TO BREAK during the collision. Students will need a 20 oz pop bottle, a raw egg, any packaging materials needed for vehicle construction, and a 2 L soda bottle to attach their vehicle to. The 2 L bottle will be used during launch. We will be compressing the 2 L bottle (with the egg vehicle on top) and launching the vehicles at a brick wall (about 3 meters away). The vehicles cannot weight more than 250 grams, be longer than 1 meter, or wider than 25 cm. Food products cannot be used in vehicle construction.
- Students must submit a diagram of their vehicle by Monday June 3rd to receive full credit for this project. (See attached form)
- We will be launching the egg vehicles (and eggs) during class on Wednesday June 5th. Egg vehicles MUST be brought to school this day.
- Check out the youtube video below of an example of another physics class doing a similar project. Ours is a little different, but very similar.
